Just got my Christmas package in the mail from a US supplier and just looked at the bill.

YIKES! $1.40 exchange and customs/taxes charges makes luthier tools extremely expensive to import.

I may have to take out an insurance policy on them in case I lose or break one . Lol.

I'm feeling your pain. Might be okay for the economy when it comes to global trade. But from kerfed linings to electronics it's killing us on the small scale.

It was a good ride while it lasted. Wish I had had a crystal ball.

I was totally broke when we were at parity. Sure felt it when I had to buy a big machine from the US...

I bought about 30 sets of different woods during a period when the exchange was still about $1.20 (many from RC Tonewoods). At the time I was wondering about my wood addiction and when it would stop considering this and locally bought wood I plan to resaw will probably last me for a number of years. Wish I would have also bought wood for rosettes and binding/purfling.

I like to think of it as the Canadian peso.

There are several Canadian suppliers of wood to be had...tools though are a different story....unless you guys want to buy overseas at a group discount. viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=46568

I'm holding off buying fretwire and tuning machines for exactly this reason.
